Located within a half mile of thousands of years of history, from ancient Cowee Mound to the Rickman Store, the Cowee School promotes the teaching and preservation of the cultural and artistic heritage of the Southern Applicachians and Cherokee people. Eight resident artists are busy working on their craft and on any given day they may also be teaching a class.
The Cowee Mercantile is stocked with art, jewelry and books by our resident artists. We also carry pottery made by students of the Cowee Pottery school along with several other artisans from our area. It’s a great place to pick up a handmade, one of a kind card or creams and salves made from local plants and goats. We strive to keep new and different items that you might not find in other stores.
Cowee Coffee is located in the Mercantile. Coffee, tea, soft drinks and snacks are available. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Gamebird Bakery is here with assorted breads and sweets like cupcakes and baklava.
The Mercantile is open during office hours ( 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.) and during special events.
