Here at Visit Smokies, our hearts go out to all of the mountain communities devastated by the severe flooding and strong winds caused by Tropical Storm Helene. We are incredibly grateful for the first responders and volunteers who are working tirelessly to support these communities. Their efforts, alongside the resilience of the people in these areas, showcase the strength of our region during this difficult time.
While some parts of Western North Carolina are focused on rebuilding, fortunately there are areas in the NC Smokies that were not severely impacted and remain open to visitors. The five westernmost counties were spared the brunt of Helene and are ready to offer the beauty and serenity that our mountains are known for, especially during the fall season. We encourage you to explore these regions, enjoy the changing leaves, and keep the Smokies in your thoughts as the recovery continues.
Thank you for your support and understanding as we navigate this challenging time together.
