The Scottish Tartans Museum is the ONLY museum of its kind in the Western hemisphere
The museum offers an immersive look at Scotland’s cultural legacy from the heart of Franklin, North Carolina. Guests can explore hundreds of authentic tartans, traditional Highland dress, historic artifacts – even tartan that has visited the moon!
Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children, making it an affordable Smoky Mountains attraction for families and heritage travelers.
Every visitor also receives complimentary surname research, helping guests discover their tartan or clan affiliation – whether Scottish, Irish, or Welsh. The museum often has visitors who didn’t previously know their surname had an associated tartan. The museum will also provide research for visitors with heritage outside the British Isles.
Located on Main Street, the museum also features a popular gift shop with tartans, books, and unique Scottish goods (including clothing, specialty items, and Scottish foods).
The museum is open Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.
