About

Explore the Bartram Trail, a scenic hiking route through Western North Carolina’s Nantahala National Forest, with waterfalls, mountain views and wild landscapes.

The Bartram Trail follows the journey of 18th-century naturalist William Bartram across more than 110 miles of northeast Georgia and Western North Carolina. Marked by yellow blazes, the route travels through the Nantahala National Forest and reaches well-known destinations such as Wayah Bald and Cheoah Bald. Hikers can explore mountain overlooks, waterfalls, river valleys, wildflower-rich forests and landscapes connected to the Cherokee heritage of the Southern Appalachians.

The Blue Ridge Bartram Trail Conservancy protects and maintains the Bartram Trail, a scenic hiking route spanning more than 110 miles across northeast Georgia and Western North Carolina. Following the journey of 18th-century naturalist William Bartram, the yellow-blazed trail travels through the Nantahala National Forest to landmarks including Wayah Bald and Cheoah Bald.

The nonprofit Conservancy supports trail maintenance, conservation, education and outdoor recreation while sharing the natural history and Cherokee heritage connected to Bartram’s travels.
