Tree Planting Volunteer Workday

One Time Event
02/24/2024 - 02/24/2024
Tessentee Bottomland Preserve Franklin 28734

Help us transform an old cattle pasture into a wildlife haven!

During this special Saturday workday, we will continue our restoration work on the newest addition to Tessentee Bottomland Preserve. In 2023, we planted a variety of shrubs and trees on this 40-acre retired cattle pasture, and now we are back to increase diversity by adding chestnut oaks, sumacs, and river birches! Planted along the Little Tennessee River and Tessentee Creek, these trees will improve water quality and reduce erosion as well as provide food and shelter to wildlife. Eventually, this piece of land will feature a riverside woodland trail and a 25 acre wildflower meadow, and you will be able to say you helped create it! Volunteers may also have the opportunity to take home extra saplings.

We will meet at the parking area for the Tessentee IV property (574 Tessentee Road, Franklin) at 9:00am on Saturday, February 24th. This workday will run until about noon. All snacks and tools will be provided, and no prior experience is necessary. Work involves creating holes with dibble bars or shovels and planting small, bare-root tree saplings by hand. Feel free to bring your own work gloves and dibble bars if you have them, as well as water and weather-appropriate clothing.

This event is weather-dependent.
