Build-A-BeeBNB Workshop

One Time Event
02/23/2024 - 02/23/2024
Mainspring Conservation Trust, Inc Bryson City 28713

Create bee habitat out of invasive plants!

Did you know that many of our pollinators are single moms? Of the 500 species of native bees that live in North Carolina, most build solitary nests in hollow plant stems, underground burrows, or rock crevasses. Join us to Build-A-BeeBNB that will support these hard working bees!

During this workshop, participants will construct a “BeeBNB,” or bee hotel, using nonnative invasive plants (Japanese Knotweed and Golden Bamboo.) These BeeBNBs will provide nesting habitat for our native bees, encourage these wonderful pollinators to live in your garden, and give you a chance to observe their life cycle! We will discuss some of the species you may see using your bee hotel, the benefits that native bees provide, and other ways you can support pollinators.

This workshop is open to participants 12 and up. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Construction of the hotels is quite simple, and does not require tools or hand strength. Participants with hand or finger mobility concerns can be accommodated. Email Skye with any questions regarding the content of the workshop. To register, fill out the form on our website

This workshop is scheduled to run from 6:00pm-7:30pm on Friday, February 23rd at Coollaborate in Bryson City (291 Everett St, Bryson City.) Class fee is $20 and includes all materials for the BeeBNB. Payment will be collected at the start of the workshop via cash, check, or card.
