General Description: Originally a 1920s mountain farmhouse, the Folkestone Inn offers ten guest rooms, all with private baths, clawfoot tubs and showers. Some rooms also have a Celeste fireplace. Upstairs, the Inn offers private balconies with vistas of the Great Smoky Mountains, while the ground floor rooms offer an olde world charm, with flagstone floors, low pressed-tin ceilings, and the ambiance of a gently flickering fire from a Celeste Stove. The Inn is open year round and completely air-conditioned. Each room is independently zoned with thermostat controls. Rates range from $109.00 to $163.00 a night for two people that includes a bountiful breakfast. The Folkstone is nestled in a grove of giant Norway Spruce beside a mountain brook near the Deep Creek entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The inn is just two miles north of Bryson City, a sleepy little mountain community (pop. 1,400) which offers peace and a wealth of natural scenery and outdoor activities. There's hiking, trout fishing and horseback riding in the Great Smoky mountains National Park, mountain biking on famous Tsali trails, fishing on Fontana lake, sightseeing on the Great Smoky Mountains Scenic Railway and white water rafting on the Nantahala River, just a 25 min. drive from the Inn. |
